Ohio Heart Cup is here to stay, and this year’s rendition is currently being calculated.
2021 will usher in the first Ohio Heart Cup champion claiming the throne as Ohio’s top men’s soccer team. The Ohio Heart Cup inaugural tournament was derailed in March of 2020 as were nearly all U.S. sporting events. All corners of the state of Ohio have a team already committed and additional entities are currently being vetted for the competition.
To limit travel, the Ohio Heart Cup will determine groupings once the final set of teams is determined come March 2021. Current commitments include Cleveland SC (NPSL), Amish Country United (NOSL), Dayton Dutch Lions (USL 2), Toledo Villa FC (USL 2), Youngstown Nighthawks (PASL), and Forest City FC (NOSL).
As leagues form their respective league schedules over the coming weeks, this will allow Ohio Heart Cup to set groupings, dates, venues, and U.S. Soccer sanctioning.
The 2020 format included three groups of three teams playing a home and away to determine who flows up to a single knock out tournament to crown a champion. The 2021 format will be as close to this format as possible given number of teams and their locations.
This is an invite only tournament based on expected talent, previous on pitch success, and fan following. However, if you feel your squad needs consideration, you can submit a contact request form at the website by clicking here!
